VetFest 2012 To Help Homeless And Hurting Veterans
Redford, MI, June 18, 2012 – The annual Michigan Vet Fest, now rebranded as VetFest 2012, returns to
again raise awareness, support and appreciation for homeless and hurting veterans. This all day music and
comedy benefit show kicks off on Saturday 7/14/12 at the Timber Wolf Tavern (25641 Plymouth Road
Redford, MI) and will bring together award-winning acoustic and amplified music acts to salute and support
vets in need.
From it’s inaugural concert in the fall of 2006, promoter and Army veteran Russ Barnett has always
dreamed of ways to reach out to those veterans who have ‘fallen through the cracks of the current system’.
“I had the idea for a few years,” explains Barnett “and decided it was time to take some action…utilizing the
talents of my musician friends to create something that would ‘give back’ to the vets; after all the unselfish
sacrifices they’ve made, it seemed the perfect thing to do.”
All the profits from VetFest 2012 will be distributed to three veteran-centric groups: local shelter and support
organization Veteran’s Haven (4924 S. Wayne Rd, Wayne, MI, http://www.vetshaveninfo.org), the
nationally based Wounded Warrior Project (http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org) and veteran’s crises
center Soldier’s Angels (https://www.facebook.com/SoldiersAngelsOfficial).
The event will officially kick off at 4 PM on Saturday, July 14 with singing of the National Anthem setting the
tone for the day. Donation opportunities (a minimum $5.00 cover charge/donation is suggested; the event is
actually free to attend) will give attendees raffle chances at various military-themed gifts and giveaways.
Acoustic performers will start the entertainment and include singer/songwriter Gail Engling, metal band
MediSin Wheel doing a rare unplugged set as well Barnett himself crooning a few tunes. Amplified
entertainment (bands) will take over after 8PM and feature 3 time Detroit Music Award winners Sweet
Crystal, blues rock from Steve Cox and The Hammers and new this year, plenty of laughs as the Toledo
Comedy Crew keeps the night moving.
The Timber Wolf Tavern, located at 25641 Plymouth Road (between Telegraph Road and Beech-Daly in
Redford) will host the event and offers a great selection of food and beverages to keep everyone satisfied
throughout the day and into the night. Sound support is being donated by CC King Entertainment

“It really says a lot about the hearts and minds of these musicians, how quickly they all jumped on board,
ready and willing to donate time, talent and work for this cause” says Russ. “VetFest 2012 is just our way to
give back locally to those that gave so much for all of us.”
